Sartain, Purchasing Specialist, 901/747-7618 This is to advised interested contractors that htis office will be prequalifying conractors for an Expansion Project at the Jacksonville, Florida, Bulk Mail Center. The U.S. Postal Service intends to award a contract to fabricate and install a major expansion to the existing material handling system at the Bulk Mail Center. The system expansion will be closely coordinated with the on-going operations at the facility. Basic components of the material handling portion of the work will include: all conveyor support steel exclusive of building steel, all conveyors and slides, induction platforms and stations, deflectors (pivoting and traveling type), closed-circuit TV system, all electrical systems associated with operating the conveyors, all controls including computers, PLC's, monitor's etc., and programming, carousel sorter, towveyor system, startup, training, spare parts, and testing, and warranty. The selection, negotiation, award and installation will be accomplished in the following phases: Phase 1 - Prequalification of fixed mechanization firms; Phase 2 - The prequalified firms will be supplied with 100% drawings and specifications; Phase 3 - The prequalified firms will be requested to submit a firm, fixed-price proposal for the fabrication and installation of the bulk mail handling system. The estimated cost range for the entire project is $23,000,000 to $28,000,000. The performance time for the fabrication and installation for the mechanization portion is 700 days.
