667-0603, Email: mami@lanl.gov. The University of California which
operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to
the Department of Energy (DOE) wishes to establish partnership
agreements with private industry to focus on national and international
initiatives of mutual benefit in Earth and Environmental Sciences. The
objective of these ventures is to pursue and develop business
opportunities utilizing Sciences. The objective of these ventures is to
pursue and develop business opportunities utilizing LANL and private
industry; however, any teaming arrangements will be subject to
availability of LANL resources and unique talent. Any company
interested in pursuing LANL teaming opportunities should respond with
a letter of interest briefly describing the companies technical
expertise; national and international business markets pending;
estimates of existing national and international earth and
environmental science market shares; and identify innovative approaches
to partnerships with LANL. Opportunities that seem to be a good match
between LANL and private industry will then be discussed in detail
after proprietary information agreements are executed. The letter of
interest must be received within thirty days from the date of this
notice. An annotated list of FEES Division Capabilities includes: (1)
Geology and Geochemistry: geologic characterization, rock-water
interactions, volcanic systems, geothermal exploration, surface
processes. (2) Geophysics: national defense applications of seismology
(discrimination, regionalization, field experiments), underground
structure detection, hydrology. (3) Geoengineering: civilian seismology
applications (rock mass imaging, reservoir, flow-path imaging),
nonlinear acoustics, borehole instrumentation, drilling technology, hot
dry rock reservoir engineering. (4) Geoanalysis: advanced computer
modeling and applications (groundwater systems, oil and gas systems,
geodynamics, climate and ocean, mesoscale and complex terrain system),
lidar experiments and applications, atmospheric measurements,
explosion phenomenology. (5) Nuclear Waste Management Research and
Development: project management (Yucca Mountain and environmental
restoration), volcanic risk assessment. (6) Environmental Science:
ecological risk assessment, terrestrial ecological models, site-closure
technology, post-closure monitoring, atmospheric radiation measurement
systems, depleted uranium risk assessment. (7) Institute for
Geophysics and Planetary Physics: geodynamic modeling, collaboration
between LANL and universities with emphasis on applications for
modeling the earth's atmosphere, oceans, and mantle. The statement of
interest must be dated within 30 days from the date of this notice.
