Contracting Officer 301-427-2180. The NOAA Automated Surface Observing
System (ASOS) program will issue a Request For Proposal (RFP) in the
next 2 to 5 weeks for acquisition and testing of several All-Weather
Precipitation Accumulation Gauges. A 1-year initial development test
and evaluation will be conducted to determine the best alternative to
replace the current ASOS heated tipping bucket gauge and provide frozen
precipitation water equivalent. The RFP performance specification for
the all-weather precipitation accumulation gauge will be changed
somewhat from the Request For Information (RFI), issued in March 1996,
in order to encourage more applicants. Interested parties should send
a request for the RFP package as soon as possible to Annette E.

20910, labeled All-Weather Precipitation Accumulation Gauge RFP. The
RFP will provide a succinct description of what is sought and
information on the evaluation criteria. A 2-week period will be allowed
after RFP issuance (scheduled for May 29, 1996) for submission of
vendor questions. The Government will provide responses to questions 4
weeks after RFP issuance. The response provided to all inquiring
vendors will include an information package which contains the complete
specification. Final proposals will be due 8-weeks after RFP issuance.
