SYMPOSIUM ON ISO 9000/ISO 14000/CONTRACTOR Contact: Jim Pennington (410) 671-2441. The quality certification team of CBDCOM will sponsor an unclassified symposium on ``ISO 9000/ISO 14000 and the contractor performance certification program (CP)2'' on August 7th 1996 from 0730 to 1700 hours with workshops on implementation on the 8th of August from 0800 to 1430 at the Edgewood area conference Center, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The symposium offers an opportunity for Government and industry to exchange information on the new quality and management initiatives from offices at the Department of Defense, Department of the Army materiel command, and U.S. Army Chemical and Biological Defense Command. The Department of Defense is going through some exceptional changes in budget cuts and rightsizing, and is being re-engineered at every level. The U.S. Army chemical biological defense command (CBDCOM) continues to be at the forefront and proactive in realizing these new methods of doing business. The speakers, from CBDCOM, private industry, and other DOD agencies, will offer near and Long term advice on dealing with this rapidly changing atmosphere. Attendees will be introduced to the contractor performance certification program (CP)2, which recognizes and benefits contractors who adapt to this new order and consistently delivery quality products, control processes, and demonstrate aggressive continuous improvement efforts. Another major part of this program is the allowance of a wide latitude of Independence to contractors to make decisions. The use of Commercial quality standards, and the ISO 9000/ISO 14000 quality management systems in particular, has been endorsed by the secretary of defense. There will be speakers, industry experts and consultants, to explain ISO9000/ISO 14000 implementation and the application of Malcom Baldridge criteria to management systems.
