Presently the only identified source is the American Red Cross Center in Peoria, Illinois. Source must be identified by the center for Biologics, Evaluation and Research of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a supplier and must comply with all FDA regulations. The source must also be accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks and comply with the Clinic Laboratory Improvement Act. It is a desire of the VA that the source provide continuing education credits, reference lab testing, and membership on their technical advisory board. In an emergency, the source must be able to provide blood and/or blood products within two or three hours. Interested vendors should submit proof of capability to satisfy the requirements.
