COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 28,1996 PSA#1603Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899 60 -- FIBER OPTIC FUSION SPLICER SOL JJS96-117 DUE 071096 POC John
Stewart, LSO-360, Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899. Lockheed Martin Space
Operations (LMSO), NASA's Space Shuttle Processing Contractor at
Kennedy Space Center (KSC), FL, seeks sources capable of providing a
Fiber Optic Fusion Splicer and associated material used for fiber optic
cable installation and repair. The equipment must have the following
characteristics: 1. A built in 4 inch LDC TV monitor. 2. Built in tube
heater. 3. Fully automatic operation once fibers are set utilizing a
direct core monitoring profile alignment system to achieve ultra low
loss (typically .02 dB singlemode, and .01 dB multimode. 4. Observation
of both X and Y axes (three dimensional observation). 5. Atmosphere,
humidity and temperature compensation function provided. 6. Mechanical
proof test function. 7. Should be able to store automatically the last
100 splice losses together with dates. 8. Should have a mode field
diameter mismatch compensation program suitable for splicing 2 unlike
fibers. 9. Should be under 20 lbs. for easy handling for technicians in
the field. 10. Should have an end angle alarm, programmable up to 5
degrees. 11. Menu driven for all functions including maintenance, tube
heater programmability and other options. 12. ARC power should be
optimized automatically by an integrated power test. 13. A splice loss
control function should be provided for creating an in-line fixed
attenuator. 14. An estimated splice loss shall be displayed on the LCD
monitor. 15. Spare parts should be easily available. 16. The following
should be included with the fusion splicer, a. AC power cord, b. rugged
case, c. spare electrodes, d. spare fuses, e. spare mirror, f. tool
set, g. precision cleaver, h. 50 splice protection sleeves, I.
instruction manual, j. 8 hours of on-site training, and k. DC power
cord. Interested firms should forward indications of interest to reach
LMSO no later than 060796. In addition to indications of interest,
data should be provided giving company capabilities, experience in this
or related field, normal product lines, and such other data as may be
useful in substantiating bona fide capability to provide the
requirements of this synopsis. Address Lockheed Martin Space
