Smiley, 202-708-7947. The National Center for Education Statistics
(NCES) of The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is seeking to obtain
the services of a contractor to collect, analyze, and disseminate
statistics and other data related to education in the United States and
in other nations. To support these services, a need exists for
contractor support for high level and high quality statistical analysis
support for the Surveys and Cooperative Systems Group (SCSG) or NCES.
SCSG participates in a wide variety of data collection and analysis
activities including design and implementation of sample surveys and
universe collections, developmentof indicators or United States and
International education and trends in education, statistical analysis
of education data, publication or various types or reports, quality
assurance, data dissemination, and the development of policies and
procedures governing these activities. SCSG, as well as the rest of
NCES, is also responsible for responding to requests for comparable
education data and information on the U.S. on states, school districts,
schools, staff, and students. These requests come from Department of
Education officials, the White House, Congressional leaders, the
National Goals Panel, state government officials, school district
officials, and policy analysts, and the information is generally needed
quickly. To meet their needs, information must be collected, analyzed,
evaluation, summarized, and prepared for release within a very short
time. The contract is for a one year effort with four renewable option
years. Funding of the option years is dependent upon the performance
of the contractor and the availability of funds. Requests for copies of

The anticipated issue date is 6/7/96, the closing date is 7/9/96. All
