Carbon Micronization System: Bechtel National Inc., acting as agent for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Chemical Stockpile Disposal Program (CSDP), intends to solicit competitive proposals for a Carbon Micronization System with options for eight additional systems which may be exercised through the year 2001. The major equipment consists of: (a) storage and feed system, (b) micronization mill, (c) booster fan, (d) transport pipe between mill and burner, (e) micronized carbon burner, and (f) control system. The mill shall be capable of processing virgin and/or contaminated carbon, 96 minimum Ball-Pan Hardness per ASTM D3802, at a rate of 100 to 500 pounds per hour. The mill shall operate in a negative pressure environment to prevent any contaminated carbon from entering the room and shall meet NFPA 8503 standards for fire safety. The micronized carbon will be transported through the transport pipe to the burner using carrier air provided by the booster fan. The micronized carbon burner shall be suitable for firing the micronized carbon and natural gas, or only natural gas. The burner will be mounted in an existing rotary kiln. Burner rating for the first system will be approximately 4 MM Btu/hr. Burner rating for the optional systems will be approximately 8 MM Btu/hr. Delivery will be required approximately nine months after award. This procurement is unrestricted with regard to business size. This notice will close ten days after publication.
