Observing System (ASOS) program will issue a Request For Proposal (RFP)
in the next 2 to 5 weeks for acquisition and testing of several
All-Weather Precipitation Accumulation Gauges. A 1-year initial
development test and evaluation will be conducted to determine the best
alternative to replace the current ASOS heated tipping bucket gauge and
provide frozen precipitation water equivalent. The RFP performance
specification for the all-weather precipitation accumulation gauge will
be changed somewhat from the Request For Information (RFI), issued in
March 1996, in order to encourage more applicants. Interested parties
should send a request for the RFP package assoon as possible to Annette
