COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 30,1996 PSA#1605U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Contracts Management Division,
Cincinnati, OH 45268-7001 66 -- RAMAN SPECTROMETER SOL C600593T1 POC Contact Point, Valen Wade,
(513)366-2144, Contracting Officer, Lisa Bentley, (513)366-2041 The
Ecosystems Research Division (ERD) of the National Exposure Research
Laboratory (NERL) requires a research-grade Raman spectometer that is
capable of rapidly recording (in less than 5 mins) high-quality spectra
(S/N)10 at the most intense peak without spectral smoothing) of
poly-functional organic compounds (such as methane sulfonamide) in
water at the concentration of 50 millimolar. Full scan spectra (50 -
3500 cm -1) must be recorded at a resolution of 5 cm -1 or greater
throughout the entire spectrum when exciting with a 785nm laser, in a
single camera exposure without moving the grating or any other physical
parts. (Note: 4 cm -1 resolution is greater than 5 cm -1 resolution).
The system must allow operation both with excitation (sequentially) by
a supplied 785 nm diode laser and at 514 nm by our in-house argon ion
laser. The system must be fully computer automated with complete
spectral acquisition and analysis software. The system must allow
analysis of the sample in a small beaker inside a water bath (outside
of the spectrometer) via fiber optics. The fiber optic probe must be
filtered to remove both Raman scatter and fluorescence due to the fiber
prior to sample excitation. Also, the probe must accommodate
polarization optics. The system must allow the collection of Raman
spectra as a function of pH (which will be varied by addition of a
titrant directly in the beaker) and temperature. Due to the sensitivity
requirements, the system must employ a back-thinned charge coupled
device (CCD) as the detector. Request for the solicitation must be in
writing to Ms. Valen Wade, as identified above. Request may be faxed to
Ms. Wade as well at 513-366-2107 or 2004. (0149) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0381 19960529\66-0008.SOL)
