COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 30,1996 PSA#1605U.S. VIDEO CATALOG SHOWS IN BRAZIL AND CHILE Because of the rapidly
growing information technology markets in Latin America, the Commerce
Department is inviting U.S. computer, communications, software, and
services companies to participate in video catalog shows in Brazil and
Chile in July 1996. These will be held at two major computer trade
shows--FENESOFT'96 in Sao Paulo and SOFTEL'96 in Santiago. Video
catalog shows offer companies a convenient and cost-effective way to
gain foreign market exposure without incurring the expense of
exhibiting at overseas shows. For fees starting at $450, industry
specialists will display and distribute product literature, perform
on-site software demonstrations, show video tapes, and describe
products and services to show attendees. Participating companies will
receive a list of potential distributors, dealers and buyers; local
publicity for their products; and research data on the local market.
This type of promotional activity is useful to new-to-export companies
that lack the time or resources to travel overseas and to experienced
Brazil and Chile represent a combined information technologies market
of $6.5 billion. Brazil, a potentially large market of 162 million
people, is increasingly opening its borders to overseas goods. While
Chile, one of Latin America's more progressive economies, leads the
