COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 30,1996 PSA#1605

U.S. VIDEO CATALOG SHOWS IN BRAZIL AND CHILE Because of the rapidly growing information technology markets in Latin America, the Commerce Department is inviting U.S. computer, communications, software, and services companies to participate in video catalog shows in Brazil and Chile in July 1996. These will be held at two major computer trade shows--FENESOFT'96 in Sao Paulo and SOFTEL'96 in Santiago. Video catalog shows offer companies a convenient and cost-effective way to gain foreign market exposure without incurring the expense of exhibiting at overseas shows. For fees starting at $450, industry specialists will display and distribute product literature, perform on-site software demonstrations, show video tapes, and describe products and services to show attendees. Participating companies will receive a list of potential distributors, dealers and buyers; local publicity for their products; and research data on the local market. This type of promotional activity is useful to new-to-export companies that lack the time or resources to travel overseas and to experienced Brazil and Chile represent a combined information technologies market of $6.5 billion. Brazil, a potentially large market of 162 million people, is increasingly opening its borders to overseas goods. While Chile, one of Latin America's more progressive economies, leads the region in per capita PC ownership. Interested firms should contact Clay Woods or Judy Fogg, U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Computers, Rm. H-2806, Washington, D.C. 20230; 202-482-3013 or -4936 (tel), 202-482-0952 (fax).
