COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 31,1996 PSA#1606Institute for Defense Analyses, 1801 N. Beauregard Street, Alexandria,
VA 22311 14 -- MICRO-MUNITIONS SOL D100-277 DUE 062496. Contact Point, Richard
E. Schwartz, 703/845-2179. Under a joint OSD/Army task, the Institute
for Defense Analyses (IDA) is studying potential new battlefield
armaments that could affect DoD planning for the 21st Century. One set
of candidates consists of small precision-guided munitions
(Micro-Munitions) that could be fired from personal or crew-served
weapons. Targets could include personnel, gun ports, or soft elements
of hard targets such as fighting vehicles. There are no restrictions on
exact size, specific weapons, or technical approach, although
compatibility with existing or planned U.S. weapons would be desirable.
IDA's interest is in the feasibility of developing such munitions
within reasonable cost and schedule constraints. The information
desired includes the functional description, size, type, weight,
payload, range and time of flight of such munitions, the types of
targets or target elements against which they could be employed, the
expected performance described in some appropriate measure of
effectiveness, and any restrictions, known likely countermeasures, or
other qualifications on use. A rough estimate of development time and
cost should be included. It would be helpful if funding could be given
by type of appropriation (e.g., 6.2, 6.3, etc.). Order of magnitude
production cost estimates are desired for 4-year buys of 50,000 and
250,000 per year, assuming good commercial practice for facilitation,
ramp-up, etc. Data are requested 30 days from the date of This CBD
announcement. Responses should be sent to: Dr. Richard E. Schwartz,

clarification should be directed to Dr. Schwartz at (703) 845-2179, Fax
