Assistance Division, Building 301, Room B117, Gaithersburg, MD 66 -- OXFORD CRYOSTREAM UNIT SYSTEM SOL 52SBNB6C9173 DUE 072296 POC
Keith Kennedy (301) 975-6325/Contracting Officer, Phyllis Bower (301)
975-6336 The National Institute of Standards and Technology intends to
purchase on a sole source basis, two each Oxford Cryostream unit
systems, from Charles Supper Co., Natick, MA. The systems shall flash
freeze protein crystals with no ice formation to temperatures in the
range of from 80 to 375 K and maintain that temperature for periods of
greater than two weeks. The system required for planned
crystallographic studies shall: feature a cooler which shall supply dry
nitrogen gas with programmable temperatures in the range from 80 to 375
K; the cooler shall also be portable and supplied with a support stand
that permits users to retract the coldhead when not in use and to
reposition the coldhead at the crystal in reproducible fashion; control
temperature to plus or minus 0.1 K; the temperature controlling unit
shall program ramps, plateaus, and combined ramps and plateaus so that
NIST can perform automatic temperature versus structure studies; the
temperature control unit shall also feature a built-in RS 232 interface
so that NIST can interrogate or remotely control it; consume 0.6 or
less L per hour; feature a flexible cryotransfer tubing of at least 130
cm connecting the cooler head and the liquid nitrogen storage vessel;
the coldhead design shall supply a concentric flow of dry air to
prevent frosting of the crystal. The contractor shall supply an
appropriate air dryer that can provide a continuous supply of dry air
with a dewpoint of less than minus 60 degrees Celsius at a flow rate of
25 L per minute. The contractor shall supply a splitter that can
simultaneously provide service to two units; be of open, not
pressurized, design so that users can charge the system with liquid
nitrogen with no effect on the cooling parameters; must be compatible
with existing Siemens and Rigatu X-ray generators, radiation enclosures
and cameras. FOB destination 90 calendar days after contract award.
This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. NIST
intends to solicit only one source under authority of FAR 6.302-1. See
numbered Note 22. (0150) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0289 19960530\66-0003.SOL)
