Gore, Contract Specialist, (301) 435-0365. The National Institutes of
Health (NIH), National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) has a
requirement for guinea pigs. The NIH seeks a Contractor to furnish
barrier reared and maintained Hartley guinea pigs (Outbred), Strain 13
guinea pigs (Inbred), and Hairless guinea pigs IAF (HA)-hr (Outbred).
Individual orders may contain further specified criteria as follows:
naive guinea pigs of the specified stock, of any age, weight or sex,
timed pregnant or surgically modified, meeting established health
requirements, blood and serum, fresh, frozen or fixed tissues and
organs may be required. The Contractor shall be regularly engaged in
the breeding, raising, and shipping of guinea pigs. Animals supplied
under this contract shall be reared and maintained in the Contractor's
facilities. The contractor shall comply will all applicable federal,
state and local laws, regulations and standards governing animal
welfare while performing under this contract. The contractor shall be
accredited by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Care
(AAALAC) or shall demonstrate an existing program and facilities which
comply with the most current methodologies practiced in the field of
laboratory animal medicine. These programs shall be coordinated by an
American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Diplomate or
individual with equivalent education and experience in the field of
laboratory animal medicine. All facilities, practices, and procedures
shall be in accordance with the latest issue in effect of the NIH Guide
for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The incumbent contractor is
Charles River Laboratories, Inc. The applicable Standard Industrial
Classification (SIC) is 0200. Proposals will be evaluated on the
Offeror's personnel, animal husbandry, production and breeding
procedures, overall laboratory animal program, and past performance.
The award of a fixed-price, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity,
requirements type contract is anticipated. The contract period shall be
for one year with six option years. It is anticipated that the Request
for Proposals (RFP) will be issued on or about June 18, 1996. To
obtain a copy of the RFP, all interested parties should submit a
written request to the POC at the above address. See Numbered Note 1.
