65 -- QUANTEX ASSAY KITS AND INSTRUMENTATION SOL 546-39-96 DUE 070196 POC Sam L. Gardiner This is a correction to previous notice dated 5/24/96 for RFP 546-39-96. The Miami VA Medical Center intends to negotiate sole source with Chiron Corporation, Emeryville, CA, for the purchase of a reagent/rental agreement of the Chiron HIV Instrument System, which includes: (1) (6601-013) Luminometer, (2) (6602-003) 53 degrees Centigrade Heater, (3) Chiron Data Management Computer (6603-003) and Monitor (6603-004), (4) Chiron Data Management Software (6700-006), (5) Dot Matrix Printer (6605-010) and (6) Blank Plate (6606-014). The system shall have the following capabilities: (1) Signal amplification technology using branched DNA (2) acceptable level of well to well cross-talk below 1 part in 20,000, (3) Microheater with the ability to maintain 53C or 63C at + 0.5C and (4) Centrifuge with maximum 23000rpm, 36668 x g. necessary to pellet the virus. This system will provide instruments requirements that will enable the Pathology and Laboratory Sections at the VAMC to perform tests for quantitive detection of Hepatitis C-RNA, Hepatitis R-DNZ and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type-1 (HIV) RNA. This agreement will include the loan of the Chiron HIV Instrument System at no charge with the monthly purchase of Quantiplex HIV RNA Assay Kits.
