16 -- ADVANCED NDI IRDS AND NEAR IR AND VISABLE IMAGING SYSTEM POC Contact, Patrice M. Jones, Phone (703)604-2000 The Naval Air Systems Command intends to procure an advanced non-developmental Infrared Detection System (IRDS) to replace the AN/AAS-36 presently installed on the P-3C Update III aircraft. It is envisioned that the replacement system will be similar to the existing system in form and fit and that there will be no or minimal installation design impacts. Capabilities desired include state-of-the-art focal plane array detectors, three fields of view from .5 degrees to 25 degrees, high sensitivity, a dynamic range greater than 70dB, and automatic target tracking. The command is also seeking sources for a long range, passive, near IR and visible light imaging system to replace the current AVX-1(V)2 in P-3C Anti-Surface Warfare Improvement Program aircraft. It is envisioned that the replacement system will increase the producibility of the current system; reduce the current system's weight, power and cooling; and provide equal or better optical system performance. The Navy would also like to research the feasibility of combining these two procurements in order to minimize aircraft installation impacts, reduce weight, power and cooling and provide any technology synergism that can be achieved.
