COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 7,1996 PSA#1611

HQ AFMC/STXP, 4375 Chidlaw Road, Suite 6, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH 45433-5006

A -- DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE/INDUSTRY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE Contact Maj Louis Scacca, Industrial Integration Chief, (513) 257-5593 or Ms. Sheila Whidbee, Web Site Administrator, (513) 257-5595. On 10-11 Jul 96, the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base OH will host an informative Strategic Information Management Department of Defense (DoD)/Industry Research and Development (R&D) Conference. The purpose of this conference is to demonstrate important new communication strategies designed to streamline and enhance the exchange of science and technology (S&T) planning information between DoD and industry. This conference will highlight innovations and improvements in the exchange of S&T information between DoD and industry. It will give a first hand look at more proactive ways of doing R&D work in an increasingly high stakes, competitive environment while providing insight into the strategies DoD will employ to bring about more focused and robust leverage to the R&D process. Policymakers from both industry and DoD will attend the conference to present innovative communications options for industry and DoD to exchange S&T planning information. The conference agenda promises to explore the significant benefits both industry and DoD can achieve in a new partnering environment, leading to an expanded return on investment. A primary emphasis of the conference will be to demonstrate how industry can submit their R&D information to the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) and inform DoD of their technical capabilities on a near real-time basis, allowing the military services to match up their mission and infrastructure requirements against industry research efforts. You will learn how and where to submit R&D information, how the information is made available to DoD, and how DoD's use of the information can generate more business for your company. The objective of the conference is to provide defense companies, of all sizes, with greater insight into how they can better inform the services of their technical capabilities, show how they can obtain DoD S&T planning information, and brief ongoing actions to improve information exchange. We will highlight the critical role DTIC plays in DoD's centralized communication process with industry and the benefits industry can receive by providing DTIC with their proprietary IR&D summary reports.
