Michael W. O'Connell, Jr., Contracting Officer, 201-724-6630. The U.S.
Army is requesting from Industry, Academia, National Laboratories, and
other agencies information for industrial roller chain. The chain
should conform to 40 pitch in accordance with ANSI/ASME B29.1M. Minimum
Ultimate Tensile Strength for the chain shall be at least 8,400 pounds.
The chain will be used with a master link to drive the gun mechanism
for cannon caliber weapons. Input power to the system is provided by a
3 horsepower drive motor. Technical information on roller chain
technology that applies to the above characteristics is requested.
Sample chains for destructive testing can be included in concepts. This
request for information (RFI) is for planning purposes only and shall
not be construed as a request for proposal or an obligation on the part
of the government. The government does not intend to award a contract
on the basis of this RFI or otherwise pay for the information provided.
No basis for claims against the government shall arise as a result of
a response to this RFI or government use of this information. This RFI
does not constitute the solicitation of proposals. The information
provided may be utilized by the Army in developing a new chain for the
M230 Chain Gun used on the Apache helicopter. It is anticipated that
procurements of this chain will continue for five years. All
ideas/concepts/hardware should be submitted within 30 days of this
announcement and will be at no cost or obligation to the government to
