PROPOSED SONAR MIDDLEWARE STANDARD The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, at the direction of the Naval Sea Systems Command, PMS 4252, has developed the Sonar Middleware Standard to promote software portability and reuse by providing a standard application program interface for submarine sonar systems. Copies of the proposed standard are available electronically on the NUWC home page of the World Wide Web (http://www.npt. nuwc. navy.mil). We intend to develop as large a consensus as possible within the sonar systems development community for this proposed standard. Comments on this documents are solicited from any interested industry, academic, or Government program. Comments will be accepted until July 15, 1996.
