(DSS-W) in support of the Department of the Army, Pentagon Renovation
Office, Project Manager, Information Management and Telecommunications
(PM, IM&T), 5200 Army Pentagon, Washington, DC 20310-5200 hereby
issues a Request for Information (RFI) to identify sources interested
in performing extensive renovation of the Pentagon building IM&T
infrastructure and associated services and facilities. This RFI is for
information and planning purposes. This is not a notice of
solicitation. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the
basis of this RFI or to otherwise pay for information received in
response to this RFI. An award is antici for all Pentagon users. e)
Acentralized voice switching system for red/black voice communications.
2) A single common user structured wiring system designed to
accommodate access and growth for all Pentagon users well into the 21st
century. Although future information and telecommunications systems
requirements for all Pentagon users cannot be precisely defined,
extensive networking, exploding bandwidth, and increasing application
sophistication will provide the primary parameters for any future
architecture within the Pentagon. It is essential that the technologies
and components identified be flexible and adaptable to accommodate
expanding information and telecommunications services. The migration of
systems and users to the renovated backbone will be accomplished in a
manner that will provide information systems services functionally
equivalent to current services while transforming the systems into a
modern, integrated, efficient, flexible, scaleable and maintainable
open system overlaid upon a structured wiring platform. The renovation
is planned to occur one wedge at a time with an evolutionary
acquisition approach spanning ten to fourteen years. The extensive

the Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this
RFI and incurs no liability or responsibility to compensate any vendor
for information or materials provided in response to this RFI. The
information provided in this notice is currently being drafted and will
likely change. This information is provided to obtain industry
perspectives as the Government develops its acquisition strategy, and
to allow maximum time for industry to plan and develop teaming
arrangements. Responses to this RFI will be retained by the Government.
Industry responses shall be received by: Ms. Mary Lohmann at DSS-W,
5200 Army Pentagon, Washington, DC 20310- 5200 not later than 17 July
