notice is to request suppliers to provide NTT with general referential
information on similar products or technology prior to procurement of
the intended products (mentioned below) by NTT. This public notice is
also to request that any suppliers wishing to participate as a
subcontractor in the procurement program of this product should declare
their intentions to that effect. This public notice is not intended to
guarantee public notification of procurement of the product. (1) Name:
Digital microwave communication system for short-distance transmission.
(2) Overview: Digital microwave communication system for short-distance
transmission consists of a terminal station equipment a radio-relay
station equipment and a remote supervisory equipment. The terminal
station equipment consists of an optical/electrical signal converter,
a data handling unit to handle SOH data and so on, a
modulator/demodulator and a transmitter/receiver. The radio-relay
station equipment demodulates a radio frequency signal transmitted from
a terminal station equipment, equalizes the signal wave form, and
transmits a radio frequency signal after modulation. The remote
supervisory equipment remotely monitors channels and equipments. Two
types of systems should be available to implement local transmission
lines with different transmission capacity: - Large capacity type to
offer 16 x156 Mbit/s for main transmission lines. Small capacity type
to offer 2 x 156 Mbit/s for branch transmission lines. The radio-relay
station equipment of the small capacity type is installed on a steel
tower while that of the large capacity type has four different optical
interfaces, 6Mbit/s, 32 Mbit/s, 52 Mbit/s and 156 Mbit/s while the
large capacity type has two different optical interfaces, 52 Mbit/s and
156 Mbit/s. Technical requirements are as follows: 1) System
requirements: -Frequency band for communications: 4/5/6/11 GHz bands.
-Communications service: Transmission of 156 Mbit/s digital signal. 2)
Terminal station equipment requirements -Installation: Installed in a
central office. -Optical signal interfac: 156 Mbit/s, 52 Mbit/s,
32Mbit/s (only for the small capacity type), 6 Mbit/s (only for the
small capacity type). -Functions: Optical/electrical signal conversion,
data handling (SOH handling, clock frequency conversion), error
correction, digital modulation/demodulation (the signal points are more
than or equal to 16), waveform equalization, space diversity (optional)
and crosspole interference cancellation (optional) 3) Radio-relay
station equipment requirements -Installation: Installed on a steel
tower (the small capacity type) or in a central office (the large
capacity type). Functions: Error correction, digital
modulation/demodulation, waveform equalization, space diversity
(optional) and crosspole interference cancellation (optional). 4)
Remote supervisory equipment requirements. -Installation: Installed in
a central office except a remote supervisory equipment installed on a
steel tower for a small capacity type radio-relay station equipment.
-Functions: To remotely supervise the status of a station, an equipment
and channels (no control function) (3) Contents of RFI: NTT is inviting
the following types of information on a product or technology similar
to the above-mentioned system. This is not, however, a request for
suppliers to provide proprietary and/or confidential information, (A)

transmitting power, receiving power range, receiver noise figure,
transmitting/receiving frequency, occupied bandwidth, equivalent noise
bandwidth, filter configuration, frequency stability, digital
modulation system, bit error rate to C/N performance, phase noise,
equalizer system, error correction system, space diversity system,
crosspole interference canceller system, data handling system, remote
supervision system, evaluation method of bit error performance, remote
supervision item, optical signal interface, external equipment
interface and power consumption 2) Mechanical characteristics: Outward
appearance during operation and transportation, size of weight. 3)
Accessories 4) Electrical/physical conditions Environmental conditions
(temperature, humidity, power outlet, etc.) and conformity to VCCI (*)
standard. (*) VCCI is Voluntary Control Council for Interference by
Data Processing Equipment and Electronic Office Machines. (Abbreviated
VCCI). 5) Others: Technologies implemented in design specifications to

Request for Declaration of the Intention of Participating as a
Subcontractor Any suppliers wishing to participate as a subcontractor
in the product procurement program of NTT, are requested to supply NTT
with the information listed below. After preparing a list of supplied
information, NTT will provide the list to suppliers who wish to be
provided with it, to those who have responded to the request for supply
of the information listed and to those who have purchased the
PROCUREMENT DOCUMENTATION relating to procurement of the product. NTT,
however, will undertake no responsibilities for any outcomes arising
from supply of the list, (i) Name of supplier, (ii) Place of contact
(Address, name of the person in charge, telephone number, and facsimile
number). (5) Deadline of submission of materials and comments: 3:00 PM,
July 15, 1996 (Mail must arrive no later than the above date). (6)
