66 -- CUSTOMIZED SFA3 FRICTION DEVICE SOL 52SBNB6C9134 DUE 072796 POC Linda Shariati (301) 975-5053 Customized SFA3 Friction Device. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to acquire a friction device for SFA3 customized for SFA 2 from Surface Forces Instruments, Inc., Santa Barbara, California 93105. The Contractor shall provide a friction device which measures lateral forces to better than 1 mm resolution, has bi-directional movement and measurement ability, has a total transverse movement of at least 5 mm, and can maintain sliding speeds of 10-8-1 cm/sec. The instrument shall be able to measure lateral forces with a sensitivity of at least 10-5 N. Instrumental drift shall be no more than 10 percent/hour of the frictional forces measured. This device is an upgrade of the MKII SFA which is currently owned by NIST. The customized SFA3 Friction Device shall fit a MKII SFA. Surface Forces Instruments, Inc. is the only U.S. source which provides a customized SFA3 Friction Device which meets NIST's requirements. This item shall be delivered FOB Destination. The Contractor shall deliver the friction device within 90 days after contract award. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals.
