DCRSi Tape Recorder, and SDI 107 Serial Interface. Salient characteristics: The DCRSi taped recorder shall be an instrumentation recorder/reproducer that utilizes a 48 GB 19 MM magnetic tape cartridge that records and reproduces serial data at a variable data rate from 0 to 107 mega-bits per second. The Data I/O shall be a serial clock and data. The control interface shall be RS-232 or RS-422. The tape transport shall use a rotary transfer scan for recording and playback. The DCRSi shall utilize a built-in time code generator/reader along with a user log track to aid in tracking and locating data recorded on the cassette. The DCRSi tape recorder will be installed as part of the Landsat 7 RF/telemetry subsystem to record the SPOT 1-3 and Landsat 5 analog radio frequency data stream, and therefore shall be 100% compatible with the existing equipment. Based on information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item specified as a sole source from Ampex Data Systems Corp. and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required item or its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration.
