Ford Jr., Contracting Officer 208-378-5100 The Upper Columbia Area Office, Yakima, Washington has a requirement for repair of a 15 ton gantry crane. The requirement includes completing structural evaluation of the deficiencies, such as gantry crane frame deflection, hoisting equipment function, and other mechanical and electrical components that effect operation of the crane, a corrective plan for repair and then repair of the crane. The gantry wheels run into rail frog fasteners at the intersections as the gantry is moved along the main rail system, causing rough operation and a potentially hazardous condition when traveling. Misalignment of the wheel assembly with crossing rails occurs when changing direction of travel between the main rails and bay rails. This generally occurs as the gantry is raised at each corner by a hydraulic jack to rotate tandem wheel assembly and then lowered back down on another set of rails. A jack is located at each corner, about 5 feet from the tandem wheel assembly. The gantry crane is located at Roza Diversion Dam on the Yakima River near Pamona, Washington, off of Old Canyon Road, approximately 8 miles north of Yakima Washington.
