The Government is hereby issuing a request for information to identify potential alternative commercial sources for the current Air Force Gas Turbine Power Unit referred to as the Large Aircraft Start System (LASS). 2. The current LASS supplies compressed air used for starting the C-130, KC-135, C-135, C-5, C-17, C-141, E-3, and the E-4 Aircraft's Turbine Engines and performing other functions that require a large volume of compressed air. The LASS supplies air at a rated air flow of 147 lb/min, rated pressure of 48 psia and maximum temperature of 445 degrees fahrenheit. 3. Any acceptable commercial item should have similar output ratings but is not required to be turbine powered. Diesel powered versions will also be considered. The unit shall also be mounted on a four-wheeled trailer and capable of operation on multiple fuels such as JP- 8 and diesel. 4. The purpose of this announcement is to survey the commercial industry for commercial off the shelf units and to examine what the commercial airlines use for a LAS equivalent. 5. Request that those firms who have commercial equivalents of the LASS, or that have also supplied similar models to the airlines, submit copies of any commercial literature, test reports, or other literature, which would substantiate any test performance claims, production capabilities, product supportability, maintainability, and the ability to provide world-wide service and parts support. 6.
