Miniature Cryo Scanning Tunneling Microscope for imaging surfaces with atomic resolution at liquid helium temperatures. Microscope must sit into an immersion cryostat of a diameter of 1.5 inches and work within the temperature range of 1.5K to 300K. Microscope specifications are as follows: diameter: 25mm, length: 100cm from tip to bottom of top flange, 96cm from tip to bottom of KF., KF: 2.5 inches O.D., gasket nominal diameter: 2.2 inches. Delivery shall be within 16 weeks of contract award. It is the intent of the Government to award a contract on a sole source basis pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. This microscope was manufactured by Topac Scientific Instruments, Hingham, Massachusetts, and extensive market research has demonstrated that there is only one or a limited number of responsible sources. Firms that recognize and can produce the required item described above are encouraged to identify themselves and give written notification to the Contracting Officer, and provide supporting evidence to the Contracting Officer within twenty (20) calendar days, after date of publication of this synopsis. The final determination by the Government not to open this requirement to competition, based on any information provided, is solely within the discretion of the Government.
