99 -- NATIONAL IGNITION FACILITY (NIF) SPHERICAL ALUMINUM TARGET CHAMBER POC Contact Don Potter, (510) 422-8673, Fax (510) 422-9294, Email - potter5@llnl.gov, Subcontract Administrator Specialist The University of California, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, seeks sources for the fabrication, installation, and final machining of an aluminum spherical target chamber. This chamber is an approximately 10 meter inside diameter, 10 cm thick 5083 aluminum shell coated on the outside with 40 cm of reinforced concrete. The chamber will have approximately 150 ports ranging in size from 27 cm to 185 cm. The ports shall be of a ''weld-neck'' type with some precision location and flange machining required after installation and overcastting with concrete. The chamber and ports will be vacuum tight as well as having structural integrity. The chamber may be built on site at Livermore, CA. Installation will be within the proposed National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Livermore, CA and on top of a 7.6 meter pedestal support (not part of this effort). Fabrication, installation, and final machining will be coordinated with the NIF facility construction schedule. Prospective sources must have past experience in fabrication and machining of large aluminum vacuum vessels in the range of 1x10-6 Torr, and capabilities (or demonstrated experience in partnering) in areas such as field fabrication and erection, field measurement and machining, and concrete installation. Interested firms should respond with a description of qualifications with respect to the foregoing or related fields. The small business size standard applicable to the proposed acquisition is 500 employees. Firms qualifying as a small business with respect to this standard should so state. Responses are required on or before August 1, 1996.
