A -- NASA RESEARCH ANNOUCEMENT FOR SOLID EARTH AND NATURAL HAZARDS RESEARCH SOL NRA-96-MTPE-05 POC Dr. Miriam Baltuck tel: 202/358-0273 NRA-96-MTPE-05 Dr. Miriam Baltuck tel: 202/358-0273 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announces the solicitation of proposals for scientific investigations to be carried out as part of the Solid Earth and Natural Hazards Research and Applications theme in support of Mission to Planet Earth. The research themes aim to develop and use NASA space geodetic and remote sensing technology to improve understanding of the physical dynamics of the solid earth (including the interaction with atmosphere, ocean and fluid core) and to improve and demonstrate the capability of this technology in the assessment and mitigation of natural hazards. Priorities of the Solid Earth and Natural Hazards Research and Applications sought in this solicitation include: I. Dynamics of the Solid Earth (Earth Parameters/ Earth Dynamics): 1. Static and Time Variable Geoid Measurements, 2. Earth Rotation and Angular Momentum of Earth Systems; II. Topography & Surface Change: 1. GPS Applications, 2. Characterization of Sea Level Change, 3. Coastal Hazards, 4. Floods, Drought, and Regional Consequences of Short Term Climate Variability; III. Thermal and Geothermal Hazards: 1. Wildfires, 2. Volcanic Hazards; and IV. Geologic Applications. Participation in this program is open to all categories of organizations, both domestic and foreign: educational institutions, other nonprofit organizations, NASA centers, industry, and other Government agencies.
