J. Comerford (708) 252-7956. Firm Fixed Price Bids will be solicited
from responsible offerors for the construction of the LEUTL based upon
drawings and specifications provided as part of the solicitation. The
solicitation will include site, civil, architectural, structural,
mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical drawings with
associated specifications which define the scope of work and reflect a
completed design. This facility is composed of the LEUTL enclosure
tunnel, access maze, service wing, and chillers room. The enclosure
tunnel and access maze are approximately 200 ft. long by 12 ft. wide
rectangular reinforced concrete enclosure (walls, shielding walls,
roof, and floor) which is fully bermed over with soil backfill. The
service wing and the chiller room are approximately 40 ft by 30 ft. and
15 ft. by 10 ft. in size. They both have a combination of concrete
floors and walls, steel framing, metal roof desk, siding panels, and
insulated membrane roofing system. The LEUTL tunnel ties into the
southeast portion of the Synchrotron (Bldg. 415). The HVAC system will
provide heating and cooling with centralized air handling and chiller
equipment. Process water, compressed air, power, communications, fire
alarm, and other services will be obtained from the existing injection
and Synchrotron, Bldg. 412 and 415. The fire protection water and floor
drain and waste water system will tie the existing systems outside the
new building. The LEUTL will be constructed on the Advanced Photon
Source site at Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Illinois. The
estimated cost is from $600K to $900K. The solicitation will be ready
to issue on or about July 16, 1996. A mandatory pre-bid conference and
site visit will be held on or about August 6, 1996, with bids due on
or about August 22, 1996. There will be a $200 charge for each copy of
