76 -- ORGAN REFURBISHMENT POC: Kimberly Carroll, Contracting Officer, 202-416-7993, Valerie L. Veatch, Chief of Contracts, 202-416-7912. This requirement is for the removal storage, refurbishment, and reinstallation of the 4200 pipes of the Concert Hall Filene Organ. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to enter into a sole source contract with Lawless Johnson Organ Co of Hagerstown MD under authority of FAR 6,302 as it is believed that Lawless, as the original installer and sole provider of its maintenance for the last 25 years, is the only firm with sufficient knowledge of the organ to provide the necessary care and safety needed. This is a 3 manual, 53 voice, 76 rank electronic-pneumatic action pipe organ of the late American classic style. It was built in 1971 by the AEolian-Skinner Co of Boston as their Opus 1472. General requirements: redesign the layout of the organ, including the presentation of its pipe display, to conform with the requirements of the Hall renovation; make the necessary changes in the organ's structure to accommodate the new layout; disassembly and remove organ from the Hall; repair work/alterations to be performed while organ is disassembled, reinstall organ; tonally regulate the organ to fit the changed acoustic resulting from the Hall renovation.
