SOLARX-RAY IMAGER (SXI) INSTRUMENT FOR THE GOES NO/PQ SPACECRAFT POC

(SXI) -- The SXI images the solar corona in the soft X-ray to far
ultra-violet (XUV) region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Full-disk
solar images are provided with 5 arcsec pixels in several wavelength
bands from 6 to 60 Angstroms. The SXI telescope is mounted on the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Geostationary
Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) series. This is a
solicitation for information and planning purposes. The NASA Goddard
Space Flight Center intends to make available a preliminary Statement
of Work, Requirements Specifications, and Contract Data Requirements.
The objective of this release is to allow industry the opportunity to
verify the reasonableness and feasibility of the requirement, as well
as to promote competition. Propsective offerors are invited to submit
comments for any possible improvements to the Statement of Work or more
effective approaches to the Government's requirements. This preliminary
information is being made available for planning purposes only, subject
to FAR Clause 52.215-3, entitled ''Solicitation for Information or
Planning Purposes.'' It does not constitute a Request for Proposal,
Invitation for Bid, or Request for Quotation, and it is not to be
construed as a commitment by the Government to enter into a contract.
This procurement is subject to review or cancellation at any time. The
preliminary documents described in this notice constitute all
information concerning the SXI procurement that will be furnished at
this time. Firms interested in obtaining a hardcopy of this preliminary
request must submit a request, in writing, to Steve Lloyd, Code 214.2,
NASA/GSFC, Greenbelt, Maryland 20771. The GSFC desires to meet with
potential prime offerors in early August 1996, to discuss their
capabilities in performing this requirement and to get further insight
into submitted comments on the draft documents being released in this
notice. Potential prime contractors who desire to take advantage of
this opportunity must submit a 6-10 page capability statement
demonstrating their relevant experience, familiarity with the
appropriate technology, experienced personnel, and plant
facilities/equipment. Interested firms are requested to submit any
comments and suggestions on the preliminary documents and their
capability statements within two weeks after their release to the
address cited above. The anticipated release date for the official
solicitation is in September 1996. It is the Offeror s responsibility
to monitor the NASI/World Wide Web for solicitation release as the
solicitation will be released as soon as practicable whether prior or
subsequent to the projected date. Electronic versions of the documents
