R075-96. The scanning electron microscope shall be equivalent to a LEO
Model S430i Core Integrated Instrument with the following minimum
capabilities; (a) Electron optical column and electron gun with
pre-aligned tungsten filament. Resolution 4 nm. Three pre-aligned
electron optical lenses. Three final apertures. Optibeam control of
lenses. Conical final lens. EHT supply, 1.0kV to 30kV. Adjustable in
10V steps between 1.0kV and 30kV. Automatic bias control with
acceleration voltage compensation. Magnification range of 15x to
300,000x. Operator pre-set magnification function. Manual gun
alignment. (b) Specimen Chamber/Stage and Secondary Electron Detector:
Chamber Dimensions: 265mm wide x 190mm high x 300mm deep. Accessory
Ports: Eight accessory ports. Specimen Stage Type: Motorized 5 axis
Cartesian. Mounting: Hinged door. Movements: X 100mm (+/- 50mm); Y
125mm (+75mm, -50mm); Z 35mm continuous; Tilt 0 degrees to 90 degrees
tilting to rear of the chamber. Rotation: 360 degrees. Repeatability:
5um. Maximum Specimen Weight: Up to 0.5kg. Tough Alarm: Audible warning
with on-screen message. Specimen Mounts: Single and eight position

Secondary Electron Detector: Detector Type: Phosphor scintillator with
optically coupled photomultiplier. Collector Bias: Adjustable from
-250V to +400V. (c) Vacuum system: Air-cooled 70L/sec turbomolecular
pump. Direct drive rotary pump. Large desiccator. Penning gauge with
vacuum readout. No water, compressed air or liquid nitrogen required.
Rotary Pump: Two stage 12 cubic meter/hr. Includes oil mist filter.
Turbomolecular Pump: 190 liters/sec air cooled. Control: Fully
automatic. Gauging: Penning gauge fitted to the specimen chamber.
Indication: Vacuum reading, vacuum ready and valve status are shown in
the vacuum menu and optionally in the status menu. Ultimate Vacuum:
The ultimate vacuum in the specimen chamber is better than 2 x 10 to
the minus 6th power torr. Evacuation Time: Normally better than 3.5
minutes, dependent upon specimen outgassing and atmospheric humidity.
(d) Mouse and Keyboard for system control Microsoft Windows control
interface. Control of EHT, lens suplies, scanning conditions, imaging
and image recording, EDX analysis using Oxford ISIS (or equivalent
EDX). Enhanced depth of focus using special Optibeam mode. Automatic or
manual control of a large number of functions including: auto gun run
up, auto resolution, auto brightness, auto contrast, auto stigmator,
auto focus and a single channel video system. (e) Digital image store
and image processor design dedicated to the electron microscopy with:
1024 pixels x 768 lines. Frame averaging for up to 256 frames. Frame
integration for up to 256 frames. Line averaging for up to 256 scans of
each line. Line integration for up to 256 scans of each line. (f) Video
display and Record system: 430mm (17 inch) super VGA flicker free color
monitor. 16 scan speeds. User configurable status display menu for up
to 27 parameters. Standard data zone includes magnification, working
distance, scale bar, date, etc. Custom data zone. Vacuum status menu.
Comprehensive image annotation facilities with definable fonts, colors
etc. High resolution, Mitsubishi P78, video printer with parallel
digital data transfer. Any screen image may be recorded including
overlays. (g) Disk storage system: 1.44MBytes 3.5'' floppy disk drive.
Instrument boots from integral 400MBytes hard disk. Storage of images
on floppy disk or hard disk in TIFF format. Storage of EDX spectra and
maps on floppy or hard disk. Operating conditions easily stored and
file management through Windows V3.11. (h) Video facilities: Split
screen display. Pseudo color displays from a palette of 16 million
colors. Flexible grey band selection. Image post-processing. Image cut
and paste. Grey level histogram display. Multiple point to point and
line width measurement systems freely adjustable for orientation.
Adjustable graticule overlay. Dynamic focus +80 degrees to -80 degrees.
Scan rotation. Signal invert. (i) Complete integration of an energy
dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectrometer (Oxford ISIS EDX system/software or
equivalent) operating on scanning electron microscope PC (486DX2 -
66mhz or faster). Console extension for housing the EDX electronics.
16MByte of RAM on PC card. Image processor fitted with extended
graphics card, giving 256 color display in the Windows plane. RS232
communication for instrument control. All interfacing is internal and
all cables are included. (j) Instrument Maintenance Kit: Integrated
Link ISIS microanalysis system Comprising: Microanalytical processor.
High speed microcontroller with memory and associated circuitry for
acquisition and processing of the X-ray signal. TRANSLINK pipelined
communication system for high speed transfer of data to and from the
system computer. Two RS232 serial ports or one RS232 serial port and
one Laserbus port. Onboard diagnostics including test pulse generation
and continuous monitoring of: - power supply; - ramp; - cabinet
temperature. Eight EBU outputs. Linear power supply. (k) EDS detector
electronics: Programmable detector high voltage bias supply. Time
variant filter type with 6 software selectable time constants and
energy ranges (2.5, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 eV/channel). Computer controlled
time variant filter pulse processor which has acquisition rates of
greater than 30,000cps with no significant spectrum distortion and full
automatic calibration al all process times. Live time correction. Three
discriminators for full range pulse pile-up rejection down to Boron.
Digital zero stabilization. Seccessive approximation ADC. Conversion

press (Buehler Model Simplimet 2 or equivalent, 1.25 inch diameter mold
assembly). Sample abrasive cutter (Buehler Model Samplmet 2 or
equivalent, 115V/60Hz/1 phase). Grinder/Polisher table (Beuhler
Tech-met or equivalent, one 8 inch wheel). Stereo-Zoom Microscope (30X
minimum magnification) with photo capability and microscope stand
(Fisher Scientific Model 31-26-40-08 or equivalent). (o) Warranty,
Trainer and Spare Parts: Standard one year warranty and on-site
training for two employees. All standard replacement parts such as
o-rings, filaments, final apertures, accessory tools and operation
