York (816) 426-3106 Contracting Officer The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Central Region, has a requirement for demolition of the old FAA, Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) and Base Building at Kansas City International Airport, Kansas City, Missouri. The purpose of this announcement is to identify qualified firms who have extensive experience within the past five years of demolition projects of similar type and complexity, and as a full service prime contractor who has actively participated in all phases of the work elements described below. Responses will not be considered from contractors whose work and expertise are solely limited to project managers, designers, consultants, quality control, hazardous materials abatement, etc. The project generally consists of, but is not limited to the following elements: 1) Demolition of the original 10-story concrete frame structure, which is covered with a brick and glass block exterior. 2) Demolition of the control cab and 16-story steel frame structure that is constructed around the original 10-story concrete structure. The 16-story frame structure is covered with self-weathering, open steel louvers. 3) Demolition of the one-story masonry block Base Building that wraps around three sides of the ATCT structure. 4) Removal of all hazardous materials prior to any demolition activities. Hazardous materials may include asbestos, lead-based paint, mercury, PCB's and underground storage tanks and contents. 5) Protection of existing structures and facilities in the vicinity of the demolition site that will remain. FAA anticipates to issue a Notice to Proceed on this project in Spring 1997. The estimated price range for this project is between $250,000.00 and $500,000.00. Interested prime contractors with the above capabilities to perform the entire project, should submit a letter which indicates its interest to the following address: Federal Aviation Administration, Central Region; 601 E. 12th Street, Room 1524; Kansas City, Missouri 64106; Attn: Joe York. Letters must be received by close of business August 9, 1996. A questionnaire will be sent only to the firms who respond timely to this announcement, and those firms will be required to provide detailed written responses to all items in the questionnaire. The six most qualified firms will subsequently be provided the plans and specifications for the project for review and be requested to submit a priced offer. The FAA reserves the right to accept the lowest priced initial offer without discussions, or to conduct negotiations only with those firms determined to have offered the Government the best value. Contract award will be to the contractor offering the best value to the FAA. (0194)
