The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code for this project is 1542 - General Contractors. The size standard is $17 million. The work includes the alterations of Building 11 for laboratory and office use. The interior demolition consists of gutting the interior to the structure and the removal of test equipment. Asbestos containing material has been identified and various painted surfaces are assumed to be coated with one or more layers of lead containing paint. The alterations include the installation of an elevator, excavation and exterior concrete stairs to basement, steel and acrylic canopy, exterior aluminum glazed skylight structure, exterior painted steel stair, new finishes, laboratories with government furnished fume hoods and casework, and complete electrical and mechanical systems. Contractors within the local area are encouraged to pick-up a copy of the solicitation at the Washington Navy Yard. The hours of operation are 7:30-3:00, Monday thru Friday.
