contractor shall refurbish the existing high temperature furnace with
a hybrid insulation package incorporating aluminum oxide brick and
fiber insulation to give relatively rapid heat up and cool down. The
furnace is 36'' x 36'' x 36'', shall have the capability of operating
continuously at 1700 degrees C in air and shall be able to ramp up to
that temperature at 300 degrees C per hour. It shall have Kanthal Super
1800 elements in the 9/18 mm size. The temperature uniformity shall be
+/- 5 degrees C within the furnace chamber. The contractor shall
deliver and install the equipment at Chestnut Run, Deleware and shall,
using said equipment, demonstrate that the unit meets manufacturers
stated specifications. The contractor shall also provide an industry
standard warranty that will iclude parts, labor, and shipping for at
least one year from the date of acceptance of the full system. The
contractor shall provide formal training to U.S. Army Research
Laboratory personnel. Delivery will be 30 days from contract award. It
is the intent of the Government to award a contract on a sole source
basis pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. Firms that recognize and can produce the
required items described above are encouraged to identify themselves
and give written notification to the Contracting Officer, and provide
supporting evidence to the Contracting Officer within fifteen (15)
calendar days after date of publication of this synopsis. The final
determination by the Government not to open this requirement to
competition, based on any information provided, is solely within the
discretion of the Government. All responsible sources may submit a bid
or proposal which will be considered by the Agency. No telephone
