Pulsed Laser (UV-NIR) system to replace (functionality for functionality) and deliver to Army Research Laboratory (ARL), Adelphi, MD, the laser and electronics system currently located at ARL, Ft. Monmouth, NJ. The existing laser and electronics system will be turned in. The key features of the system are: (a) It shall operate under computer control which will allow the integration of the laser system into an integrated measurement program which shall include the detection system, sample temperature, and drive, (b) It shall be tunable from 220 nm to 1.6 um, (c) It shall have a variable repetition rate of 1 to 100 Hz, (d) It shall have a pulse width of less than 3 ns and (e) It shall have variable bandwidth. A delivery date of March 1997 is estimated. It is the intent of the Government to award a contract on a sole source basis pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. Extensive market research has demonstrated that there is only one company which has the high frequency and the short pulse width required to meet ARL's requirements. Firms that recognize and can produce the required items described above are encouraged to identify themselves and give written notification to the Contracting Officer, and provide supporting evidence to the Contracting Officer within fifteen (15) calendar days after date of publication of this synopsis. The final determination by the Government not to open this requirement to competition, based on any information provided, is solely within the discretion of the Government.
