Y -- UST CLOSURES PHASE V, MINUTEMAN II LAUNCH CONTROL FACILITIES, WHITEMAN AFB, MISSOURI SOL DACA41-96-B-0071 DUE 090396 POC Debbie Hunt (816) 426-6484 (Site Code DACW41) The work to be performed consists of in-place closure of 29 underground diesel fuel storage tanks from 15 Minuteman II Missile Launch Control Facilities within a 140-mile radius of Whiteman Air Force Base in west-central Missouri. One deep tank and one shallow tank are located at each Launch Control Facility (LCF), except that one LCF has only the deep tank. The LCF's are approximately 30 miles apart. The deep tanks to be closed are 8 feet in diameter and 42.5 feet long with an approximate volume of 14,500 gallons. These tanks are buried at depths between 30 and 50 feet. The shallow tanks to be closed are 5 feet-4inches in diameter and 15 feet long with an approximate volume of 2,500 gallons. The cover soil over the shallow tanks is approximately 4 feet thick. Both of the tanks and all associated piping are wrapped with bonded asbestos felt impregnated with coal-tar and covered with PCB-contaminated coal-tar enamel. The presence of any PCB contamination or fuel contamination above the top of the shallow tank or around the piping is not currently known and is to be determined by the Contractor. All necessary sampling and testing, and compliance with local, State, and Federal requirements, regulations, and statutes shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. Solicitations will be issued on or about 2 August 1996. Bids will be opened on or about 3 September 1996. Estimated cost of Proposed Procurement: Between $500,000 to $1,000,000.
