Propulsion Laboratory/California Institute of Technology (JPL/CIT),
operating under a prime contract with the National Aeronautics and
Space Administration, is beginning the development of a major new space
astrometry mission, including spacecraft and instrument, based on
interferometry. The mission is the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM).
This development effort will lead to an anticipated launch date of
2003. Details about this project and background including the current
status of concepts developed for it, are described in-depth on the SIM
Homepage which can be accessed at:
http://techinfo.jpl.nasa.gov/www/sim/contents.htm. The Laboratory
desires significant industry involvement in this program. To inform
companies potentially having interest in participating in this project,
JPL is sponsoring a SIM Industry Briefing on August 2, 1996 beginning
at 9:00 a.m. (PST). The briefing will consist of: (1) project overview;
(2) review of relevant technologies available and under development at
JPL; (3) interferometric test-bed development; and (4) tours of
relevant facilities. The briefing and tours will conclude at 5:00 p.m.
Interested companies that plan to attend should notify JPL on or
before Thursday, July 25, 1996. Your response should include the number
of planned attendees as well as your company FAX number in order for
JPL to provide respondents with both meeting and logistical details in
