Dick, 617/495-7401,, FAX 617/496-7692 The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires the first six of a larger quantity of large-format Charge- Coupled Devices (CCDs) for use in spectroscopy and imaging. The devices will have approximately 2048x4096 pixels 15 microns in size (or a similar total area) and must be closely buttable on all four sides for incorporation in a large mosaic. The CCDs must operate at approximately -100 degrees Celsius and have a readout noise of less than 4 electrons at 100kHz pixel rate. They must have high quantum efficiency between 330 and 1000 nm and so must be thinned back-illumnated devices. Additionally they must be flat and coplanar to 25 microns peak-to-valley.
