PROJECT INFORMATION Solicitation No. DACA45-96-B-0064 On or about 1 August 1996, this office will issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of FY 96 RAILROAD IMPROVEMENTS, FORT CARSON, COLORADO. Bids will be opened on or about 4 September 1996. This solicitation is unrestricted and open to both large and small business participation. Contractors interested in inspecting the site of the proposed work should contact the Fort Carson Resident Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bldg. 849 O'Connel Blvd, Fort Carson, CO 80913, Telephone: (719) 526-5448. The work will include the following: (Approx. quantities) REMOVAL incl: track rail (80lb, 90lb & 100lb) & cross ties, concrete & bituminous pavement @ grade crossings, existing bridge No. S-86031 (28' approaches and 48' through plate girder supported on timber trestle & 38' timber piles), existing 70' bridge No. T-86034 (timber braces, pier cap, stringers, ties, & curb, timber bulkhead planks, ties and W18 x40 only), existing 180' bridge No. S-86032 (ties and timber tie spacers only). NEW WORK incl: 55,000 LF relay of rail (90lb & 115lb), 12 timber grade crossings, Raise, surface, line & dress 20,000 track feet, 2350 cross ties, Bridge S-86031 (24' approaches, 90' welded through plate steel girder supported on cast in place concrete pier cap, steel stringers and 210 LF 4' diameter concrete caissons, concrete abutment on 580 LF H-piles, and ties with 6'' ballast underneath), Repair 70' Bridge No. T-86034 (precast concrete bent caps, timber sway bracing, steel stringers, and timber tie spacers), Repair 180' bridge No. S-86032 (ties and timber tie spacers). The estimated construction cost of this project is between $1,000,000 and $2,500,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be a requirement in this contract. The Contractor will be required to commence work within 10 days after notice to proceed and complete the work 270 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions will be included for liquidated damages in case of failure to complete the work in the time allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be required. Bid sets will be available on/a August 1, 1996. Half-size plans and specifications will be furnished upon request. All requests for solicitation packages should be made in writing no later than 14 days prior to bid opening. After such time, packages will be furnished if supply is available. It has been determined that the number of sets be limited to 1 (one) per firm (additional copies will be the responsibility of the requestor).
