Department of Agriculture, National Center Agriculture UtilizationResearch, Food Quality and Safety Unit, Peoria, IL has a requirement for a pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) cell for specialized phase equilibria studies, This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; quotations are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. Solicitation No. 5114-6-3022 is issued as a Request for Quotation. The solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 90-37. This solicitation is unrestricted. The high pressure PVT cell must have the following salient characteristics: Material of construction should be corrosion resistance (316 SS or better); The cell should have a total sample volume of no less than 130 cc.; Operating temperature up to 180oC; Operating pressures should be up to 15,000 psi; The cell should have an optical window for full sample visibility; The cell should have a magnetic stirrer for high efficiency mixing to reduce the equilibration time; The stirrer may be driven by D.C. motor with remote power unit that has variable speed, and forward/reverse switch; The cell should have thermal stability and corrections for thermal expansion; The cell entry and isassembly for cleaning should be done easily; The cell should be mercury-free; The total dimensions of the cell should not exceed 13 in. in diameter and 21 in. in height; The cell should have an appropriate stand to put it in oven.
