The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) intends to competitively contract with an organization or organizations to supply a software system capable of processing Medicare Part B or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) claims in todays environment. Support Services will also be necessary to move all current Medicare Part B and Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carriers (DMERCS) using this software system on all current and future hardware platforms. Contracting for this software system is an interim strategy prior to the availability of Medicare Transaction System (MTS) software. The request for proposals (RFP) will be released on August 8, 1996 with proposals due on August 29, 1996. Award of a contract(s) is subject to the availability of FY97 appropriated funds.
