Mallgrave, Contracting Officer, 301-975-6330 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to enter into a Sole-Source contract with Spectra-Physics for the procurement of two (2) maintenance contracts for S-P ion lasers and to extend a current maintenance contract for a S-P ion laser. The period of performance for the two maintenance contracts is from 30 June 1996 to 31 March 1998. The extension is from 31 March 1997 to 31 March 1998. The lasers are located at NIST, Gaithersburg, MD. The authority of this sole-source action is 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1)--Only one responsible source. As Spectra-Physics is the manufacturer of the lasers, they are the only responsible source capable of maintaining the lasers in accordance with their operating specifications due to the many proprietary components of the lasers and as such are the only source capable of meeting the agency's requirements. This notice is to give potential sources the ability to submit a capability statement to be received within forty-five (45) days after the date of publication of this synopsis. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. See Numbered Note 22. (0201)
