Announcement and Invitation concerning three projects for the
management and operation of food service facilities at the Smithsonian
Institution, Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian Institution is
soliciting proposals for the management and operation of its public and
staff dining facilities located in the National Air and Space Museum,
the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and the Castle (South Side
Concessions) as well as the National Museum of American History,
National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American Art and
the National Portrait Gallery (North Side Concessions). The Smithsonian
is also soliciting proposals for the management and operation of
vending machines at these locations and at other locations within the
Washington area. It should be noted that the Smithsonian may renovate
and/or expand some of its dining facilities and will bear the costs of
all such renovation and construction. The Smithsonian Institution
intends to issue separate solicitation documents for each of the three
projects referenced above. A Request for Proposal (including a
Proposed Agreement) for the South Side Concessions (R95-300) will be
available on or about Monday, July 22, 1996; that for the North Side
Concessions (R95-299) will be available on or about Monday, July 22,
1996. Comparable documents for vending machine operation (R95-301) will
be made available on or about Monday, August 26, 1996. None of the
Requests for Proposal(s) is for a federal contract and therefore will
not be governed by federal procurement procedures. Persons interested
