COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 24,1996 PSA#1643DEVELOPMENTS AT NIST Researchers at the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) have developed a new technology. Anyone
interested in the further development of this technology or in applying
for a license to commercialize this technology should send a written
request for further information, referencing the NIST Docket Number and
Title, to: Marsha Salkeld, National Institute of Standards and
Technology, Industrial Partnerships Program, Building 820, Room 213,
Gaithersburg, Maryland 20899; Telecopy: 301-869-2751. This is not an
announcement of a contract action or a grant. NIST Docket Number:
95-046PA, Title: Portable Benchtop Fourier Transform Microwave
Spectrophometer for Trace Gas Analysis, Description: The invention
describes a Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. The device is an
improvement over existing microwave spectrometers in that it has
improved the typical signal-to-noise ratio by using a
cryogenically-cooled amplifier; has fast real-time sampling by using a
pulsed molecular beam for sample introduction; and has better
resolution by the use of dual microwave antennas to better resolve
molecular signals. A detection limit of 3 ppb has been demonstrated. An
application has been filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The
primary market for this invention is trace gas analytical instruments.
Secondary markets that would use this technology include industrial
emission measurement, hazardous waste management, analytical chemistry
equipment, and other low-detection limit applications such as
automotive emission research and hazardous cargo detection equipment. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0684 19960723\SP-0003.MSC)
