The Government intends to purchase on a sole source basis the following CISCO Systems Inc networking supplies. The following items are manufactured by CISCO Systems Inc: p/n SN/WS/-X5011, Catalyst 5000 Ethernet Switching Module (6 each) and p/n SN/WS-C5001, Catalyst 5000 (Chassis, Supervisor Engine) (1 each). The above items are to support the expansion and maintenance of the existing fleet Ballistic Missile Network (FBMNET). The catalyst 5000 is the network switch currently in use within the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Engineering and Facilities Branch. This networking system connects personal computers and internal production network for all the branches in the department, coding of departmental tasks and also establishes one server or network usage. The required items is to be used to configure a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) within FBMNET. The VLAN configuration is a proprietary product of CISCO. Because FBMNET is comprised of CISCO equipment the cost of implementing the VLAN configuration is minimized. Procuring the CISCO catalyst 5000 chassis will also provide consistency between network components since other network switches already in use on FBMNET are CISCO catalyst 5000s. Award is to be made under Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
