The objective of this project is to test environmental chemicals in
laboratory animals (mice, or rats, or rabbits), and develop data on the
general and reproductive toxicology of such chemicals. This work
involves evaluating tissues and vaginal cytology slides sent from other
toxicology labs (spermatid count and vaginal cytology evaluations) and
performing in vivo toxicology studies in-house. The contractor shall
be responsible for maintaining animals in environmentally-controlled
facilities, and providing technical assistance to the National
Toxicology Program-designated toxicology laboratories. This work shall
be performed in a manner compatible with the NIEHS Laboratory Health
and Safety Minimum Requirements for Contractors. This work shall also
be conducted in accordance with the Chemistry Requirements for
Toxicology Testing Laboratories Which Require Central Analytical
Chemistry Support, Revision 3.2, dated October 18, 1995. All lab
records shall be kept in accordance with FDA Good Laboratory Practice
Regulations for Non-Clinical Laboratory Studies; Final Report (Fed.
register, Friday, September 2, 1987, pp33768-33782 (21 CFR part 581)).
The Contractor shall have demonstrated experience in performing
reproductive toxicology studies and have an operational facility with
appropriate staff and procedures for performing reproductive toxicology
studies. The estimated period of performance is five (5) years. The
Government estimates this five year period may require approximately
58,250 hours of professional time, and 78,250 hours of technical time.
This acquisition is a total small business set-aside, the size
standard for which is 500 employees. See Numbered Note 1 and Note 26.
