0001 to solicitation no. N00014-96-R-LB06, published in the CBD on
Tuesday, July 23, 1996. The purpose of this amendment is to add a
specification, correct a symbol error and answer a technical question
received. The following specification is added: (12) The fiber must not
have more than two strands. Single strand fiber is preferred. The
greater than and less than symbols in the specification did not
translate properly by computer transmission to CBD. Therefore, the
following specifications are hereby corrected and restated. (1)
Dispersion magnitude: greater than 100 ps/nm x km at 1550 nm (3)
Dispersion variation along length: less than 2% (4) Dispersion slope
variation along length: less than 5% (5) Splice loss to SMF-DS fiber:
less than 0.5 dB (5) Attenuation: less than 0.5 dB/km (6) Polarization
mode dispersion: less than 0.5 ps/km ^0.5. All other terms and
conditions remain unchanged. The following technical question and
answer are provided. Question: Is this solicitation strictly for
cladded glass fiber with no further covering for mechanical and
environmental protection? Answer: Yes, only buffered fiber is required.
No other cabling or protection is required. In accordance with FAR
52.212-1(9), offerors are advised to acknowledge this amendment in
