Colbert, Contract Specialist (702) 295-1466 DOE/NV announces the availability of Program Research and Development Announcement (PRDA) No. DE-RP08-96NV13084 from the ''Tanks Focus Area (TFA) and Characterization, Monitoring, and Sensor Technology Crosscutting Program (CMST-CP)'' on or about 8/8/96. The PRDA supports the mission of the Office of Science and Technology within the DOE's Office of Environmental Management (EM). The PROCUREMENT is focusing on the development and demonstration of safe, reliable, and cost-effective methods for sampling, characterization, and monitoring of radioactive waste stored in high-level waste tanks at DOE sites. The three task work descriptions under this PRDA are: (1) Adapt and demonstrate commercial sensors for in-tank survey of metal obstructions in sludge and in the cross-sectional area under tank risers; (2) Develop and demonstrate sampling tools for retrieving solid waste samples from off-the-vertical-penetration position, and (3) Adapt and demonstrate commercial in-tank corrosion sensors to monitor hydroxide, nitrate, and nitrite concentration in the liquid layer. This PRDA solicitation is open to all private sector entities; DOE Management and Operating (M&O) contractors and National Laboratories are prohibited from submitting proposals as a prime contractor under this solicitation. Only written requests for the solicitation will be honored. Written requests for the PRDA should reference the PRDA title and the solicitation number and should specify a point of contact at the requestor's location.
