Appalachian Mountains Initiative (SAMI) is an eight-state nonprofit
organization partially funded by EPA. SAMI is examining ways to improve
air quality in the Southern Appalachians, particularly in Class I
areas. Over the next year, SAMI will issue a series of requests for
proposals to obtain assistance in conducting an air quality assessment,
particularly for ozone, acid deposition, and visibility, as well as,
for emission inventory, atmosphere transport and chemistry, and other
